Scheffer has the main part of basic training as far as conducting is concerned through church music degrees, but the greatest importance has independent conducting classes with prof. Dan-Olof Stenlund (Conservatory of Music, Copenhagen) and Jan Yngwe (Music, University of Gothenburg) had. Even as a conductor he has an unusual breadth, with the most from gospel and jazz to contemporary and classical music, although the emphasis has been on the latter. Scheffer formed Korsdraget Gospel (later Inspirit Gospel) back in 1996 and since then he has been the musical director of, or active in, a large number of choirs; Gothenburg Symphonic choir, Örgryte Chamber choir, Ingelstadkören, Linneryds, Sandra Sandsjö and Urshults church choirs, et al. Since 2005 Scheffer is the artistic director of Tingsryds Sinfonietta and as such even composer in residence and musical arranger. In 2016, he was elected a member of the Association of Swedish Conductors.
